The Ark Restaurant has maintained a 60-plus-years reputation as one of North Central Alabama's favorite eating establishments. Run by current owners Bob and Sylvia Cornett since 1979, The Ark sits just off Highway 78 East in Riverside, Alabama, near the old Bankhead Bridge which has spanned the Coosa River for many decades.
Barely a mile from I-20, The Ark has accommodated the tastebuds of generations of catfish lovers not only from St. Clair County but from the surrounding counties of Talladega, Calhoun, Etowah and Jefferson, as well. From its 1930's beginning on a boat --hence the name, "The Ark" -- the restaurant has forged a colorful reputation,as much for its oasis-in-a-desert stance during the "dry county" days which ended in 1967, as for its famously-heralded catfish and hushpuppies.

Since taking over 22 years ago, the Cornetts have been reluctant to tamper with the long-standing recipes, but have added their own touches as well, including Sylvia's popular shrimp salad and their unique way of preparing the jumbo fried shrimp, which draws raves from miles around. Diet-conscious patrons will find accommodation from the grill, including the popular grilled chicken breast and grilled chicken salad. But when all's said and done, It's the catfish and hushpuppies that keeps 'em coming back for more at the ultra-casual Ark, where the decor is early 50's and the menu prices are budget-friendly. The hospitality? It goes without saying. Do yourself and your family a favor and try The Ark.
